Runway
02-20 560m grass marked with white tyres at N and S threshold and markers alongside runway edge. Clearways at either end (not useable in winter months) give 700m maximum. Surface beside runway NOT suitable for taxying. Circuits 800 ft or 1,000 ft to WEST of field only. No overflying of Maypole village immediately to east of field. Avoid the houses by turning slightly left after take off when using 20. Avoid Manston Runway 10 extended centreline which crosses the coast north of Maypole. Windsock close NW to runway edge. Take special care to avoid people on the footpath which runs across the northern end of the runway and pedestrians, farm vehicles or horses near the runway edge. MOST IMPORTANT - Horses graze either side of the runway. During the day horses may be led across or alongside the runway. Their handlers will be wearing high visibility green/yellow jackets. If you can see a high visibility jacket on your approach a horse is being led and you must not land or overfly the runway. Hold off until they clear (or the high visibility jacket is removed). Please note fuel is only available to non resident pilots in emergencies and you must plan to land at Maypole with enough fuel for your return trip. When using Maypole Aerodrome please help us by giving consideration to the local residents. You can do this by not over flying the houses, turning on to 180 deg M immediately after take off on 20 to avoid the properties at the south of the field, not doing prolonged engine runs on weekends and doing your pre take off checks where the hangars will shield any noise from the village. HelicoptersUse of the airfield by helicopters may be limited because of the horses grazing in paddocks beside the runway. PPR on 01227 860374 is essential. Helicopters should approach from the NW towards the windsock. All helicopter departures to the NW. Do not fly the normal fixed wing circuit pattern and do not overfly the grazing paddocks.
